The White Lakes

Brian's favourite video this week on ralphslife.co.uk is All Night, the new single from Oxford alt rock four-piece The White Lakes.

Look out for The White Lakes live at Square Hippo in London on February 23rd and The Cellar, Oxford on March 17th.

Brian will be playing All Night on the Radio KC Indie Show a week on Sunday (4.3.18) so make sure you tune in.

LYRICS Eyes wide, not thinking Pretending that you're not drinking No brain, white fame Has found its way up your nose again Cowley kills you Every other Wednesday night Leather jackets Will steer you into another fight She said 'We're up all night' Don't wait for me I'll take my time and then see you Breaking down again Pretending to cry and that I miss you Pulling out your hair You want your mother dead Forget what I just said, just go and dance instead.

Brian's favourite video this week is Ghosting by Edinburgh band Wozniak which is taken from their critically acclaimed Colour Reels album released in April last year.

Wozniak purvey atmospheric shoe-gaze of the highest quality and that's evident in this latest offering from the album. Go seek it out.

No 5: Sheafs

SHEAFS are a five-piece indie rock band from Sheffield, which formed in the later end of 2015 comprise Lawrence Feenstra (lead vocals), Chris Goodacre (guitar/backing vocals), Charles Mellor (guitar), Callum Wright (bass/backing vocals), Charlie Eastap (drums).

Following on from the legacy of breakthrough single, This Is Not A Protest, new track, Shock Machine is a bold step up in both power of performance and size of hooks used.

No 6: Pyramid Park

No automatic alt text available.
Winter 2017 saw Cambridge based artist Pete McCallen a.k.a. PYRAMID PARK release the second single Born To Be Brave from his wonderfully crafted debut album Vulnerability.

Recorded in Glasgow at Gloworm Studio’s with producer Iain Hutchison, the alt-pop artist and Hutchison created an album based on their mutual faith. References are as broad as Phoria, Two Door Cinema Club and Gabriel Khane.

No 7: Granfalloon

Granfalloon
Granfalloon is the musical moniker of Richard Lomax and his folktronica group based in Manchester. Folktronica is a mixture of folk and electronica. Instruments include Omnichords, acoustic guitars, Casio keyboards, and 80's drum machines.

It's a delightfully laid back slice of addictive lo-fi electronic goodness which is lyrically both poignant and amusing. Brian will be spinning Ambulance on the Radio KC Indie Show on Sunday 4th of February so tune in!

No 8: Bad Llama

We played the last Bad Llama single Apocrypha on the Radio KC Indie Show in November of last year to much critical comment, so it's no surprise we bring you news of their latest single Crooked Empire as a precursor to the imminent release of their EP of the same name.

The single will be getting a pre-release spin on The Indie Show of 18.2.18 so remember to tune in from 5-7pm.

No 9: Dean Owens

Hailed as "Scotland's most engaging and haunting singer-songwriter" by Irvine Welsh no less, Dean Owens has just released a gritty new video to accompany his latest single Southern Wind from the album of the same name; which is due for release on the 16th of February.

The album was recorded at Mr Lemons Studio in Nashville by Neilson Hubbard and will be available via At The Helm Records.

Hanging Valleys is an alternative band founded in 2016, comprising of Thom Byles (acoustic guitar, vocals), Mike Phillips (electric guitar, vocals) and Alexis Meridol (beats, synthesizer).

Hanging Valleys music is centred around soaring falsetto vocal harmonies accompanied by ethereal atmospheric phrasing on electric and acoustic guitars, which combine to create a rich shifting soundscape.

Kadija Kamara

Based in London Kadija Kamara is a singer songwriter who best describes her sound as Alt Soul. With a love of 60’s and 70’s analogue sounds, she combines her affinity for retro soul music with a host of modern influences.
To date, her accomplishments include winning the MTV Iggy Artist Of The Week poll, awarded funding for her Artist Development Programme by PRS for Music. From collaborations with the likes of Joey Negro, Zeb Bias plus many more, to backing vocals for Zara McFarlane on Later With Jools Holland.

Image may contain: 2 people, people standingHaving had the stunning Eyes On You selected by readers for Tom Robinson’s Fresh On The Net, and with praise from CLASH, The Revue, FAME Magazine, Get In Her Ears, and Hype Machine to name a few, the stage is set for her long-awaited EP Nothing Left To Lose.
It’s a diverse set of songs showcasing her broad emotional range and tinderbox potential. Mostly, it’s a clear indicator that Kadija Kamara is a free-thinking experimentalist. She is producing work that is totally unique and risque which puts her ahead of the game.
Brian's giving Nothing Left To Lose a spin on the Radio KC Indie Show so tune in on Sunday 25th of February from 5-7pm.
