The Decrees

Image may contain: 4 people, people standing, sunglasses and outdoorIt's always nice to be able to feature a band from my paternal home in The Kingdom Of Fife; even if they do come from Dunfermline. On this occasion it's an introduction to a young band of scalawags called The Decrees.

The Decrees have announced they will release their new single Sons of Rage, comprised of two tracks, the other one being West Sierra The band are no-holds barred Rock 'n' Rollers possessing high-octane energy from the old school Fife punk realm; reminiscent of The Skids, The Rezillos or The Valves; all of whom are enjoying a renaissance.

Image may contain: 3 peopleSons of Rage was recorded by Michael Brennan of The Substation (Mogwai, Snow Patrol, Super Furry Animals, Loop, Primal Scream) and mastered by Pete Maher (U2, The Pixies, Jack White, The Rolling Stones, Lana Del Rey) and Ralph is giving it a spin on the Radio KC Indie Show a week this Sunday (12.11.17).

The Decrees formed in early 2016and the line-up comprises; vocalist Lewis Akers, bassist Caitlin Petrie, guitarist Callum Bell and drummer Kieran Bell.

Image may contain: 1 personIn April of this year, The Decrees released their debut four-track EP Screams From Suburbia, offering a musical account of the everyday experiences of the monotony of modernity. This release blends full-throttle rock music with catchy choruses and beats.

Sons of Rage was one of the first songs the band wrote after forming, retaining their trademark sound while weaving in an infectious Celtic rock melody. This beckons to the forgotten past, to the band's Scottish roots, affectionately nestled in the band's collective psyche. This follows in the same vein of such Celtic-folk tunes as The Gael, steadily imparting strong and re-occurring themes and melodies, and coupled with the strong, driving and near-primal beats throughout.

It's a significant release for The Decrees as it shows a more emotive side of their music, transmitting a massive dose of positive energy while also resonating with deeper musical inspirations.

Callum said - "Lyrically and musically, this song is a serenade to that something better found over the horizon, way past those neon lights. It's about directing all your energies into chasing something you desire. Something that you are waiting for and hoping it won't pass you by."

"It is about those intrepid few in the past who achieved the impossible."

The band's influences range from The Doors, Hawkwind and The Sex Pistols to The Who, AC/DC and Issues.

Guitarist Callum Bell's love for Stuart Adamson of Big Country and The Skids (he's channeling a bit of Stuarts unique guitar work on Sons Of Rage) as well as Gaelic-folk music are felt particularly in West Sierra

The Sons of Rage single was released on October 27 and made available on all the regular online stores and streaming sites, as well as being available via their Bandcamp.

No 2: Purest

Image may contain: 5 people, people sitting and sunglasses
Yielding more swagger than a Kevin Shields customized Jazzmaster, the intense sounds of Sheffield guitar bandits Purest have come knocking firmly at the door of mainstream radio with new single Waiting For to be released later this month.

The Sheffield 4-piece’ debut made such an overwhelming first impression on Gary Powell of The Libertines that he, along with label partner Wayne Clarke, signed them to their label 25 Hour Convenience Store Records for their second full release.

Image may contain: textWhilst Manchester is brimming with indie-rock bands, long time Ralph's Life favourites The Jade Assembly purvey a brand of rock and roll that stands out from the crowd, full of raw charisma and plenty of determination. With energetic rock to lift your feet off the floor, these Bolton lads perform with fearsome energy and zealous honesty.
Top news just in is the release of a new single in the shape of Got My Star and it's a banger so needless to say Ralph's giving it a spin on the Radio KC Indie Show Sunday 15th October.

No 4Sugarmen

Image may contain: 4 people, people sitting
Ralph's favourite video this week is the excellent and trippy Push Button Age by Liverpool band Sugarmen.

The track is on their soon to be released debut album Local Freaks which sees it's launch party in The Sebright Arms, London on October 5th.

No 5: Snippet

Picture

Colchester's favourite son Johnno Casson aka Snippet is the uncrowned king of feelgood pop-esque music and his latest album Human Good isn't bucking that trend.

Johnno takes you on a journey of "people-rich" stories that encompasses a wide array of characters including fraudsters, pimps, prostitutes, drinkers, users and abuser’s and simple everyday folk just trying to make sense of this world.

No 6: Names

Limb by Limb by Pembrokeshire-based duo Names is the follow up single to Backs Turned, a song that has already been played on Ralph's Indie Show on Radio KC. It has been described elsewhere as “a wintry soundscape with all the fluency, space and atmosphere of the Mogwai Les Revenants soundtrack”.

Where do you go after creating such an assured artistic statement with your debut single? Limb by Limb is the answer. Names have shed any creative ego to create a raw, emotionally rich song devoid of self-indulgence and over reaching dramatization.

No 7: PAVES

PAVES Baby Packshot.jpg
London four-piece PAVES are set to release their new single Baby via the reformed This Feeling Records, digitally as of now and on limited edition 7” vinyl on November 17th.

BABY is an upbeat, ready made guitar classic that wouldn’t be out of place in a feel good, Hollywood rock n roll movie. Speaking on the track, the band said, "Baby went down a blast all summer.

No 8: CHROMA

Chroma Vampires Packshot.jpg
South Wales trio CHROMA set to release their explosive new single Vampires October 27th via Datod Records with the track already available to download.

Vampires is their first release since playing the BBC R1 Introducing Stages at Reading & Leeds Festival 2017. Needless to say Ralph's giving Vampires a spin on the Radio KC Indie Show so tune in on Sunday 5th November for the Bonfire Night Special from 5-7pm UK time.

No 9: HVNTER

Image result for HVNTER ghost
HVNTER is the musical project of South Wales singer-songwriter and producer Jamie Willetts. His debut track Blood quickly racked up over 30,000 plays on Soundcloud within the first few weeks and recently he released his Ghost EP.

Always at the vanguard, Ralph's giving it a pre-release spin on the Radio KC Indie Show Sunday October 29th. Tune in 5-7pm UK time.

No 10: Charlotte Carpenter

Image may contain: 2 people, child and close-upShelter is the lead single taken from the new EP by Charlotte Carpenter and it's Ralph's favourite video this week. The EP is released 20th October 2017 on 10" vinyl and you can pre-order your copy here: SHELTER See Charlotte Carpenter on tour throughout October and November...
